If your child has special educational needs (SEN) and attends school in Merton, you may be eligible for free or subsidised school transport. Here’s a clear 2025 guide to help you through the process.

## Step 1: Check Eligibility

Merton Council offers SEN transport for children who meet specific criteria. This includes: - An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) - Distance from school (usually over the statutory walking limit) - Specific mobility or safety needs

## Step 2: Gather Documentation

You’ll need: - Your child’s EHCP - Proof of address - Medical evidence (if relevant)

## Step 3: Apply via Merton Council

Applications are made directly through Merton Council’s website. Fill in the SEN Transport form, attach documents, and submit.

## Step 4: Assessment

The council will review your application and may arrange an assessment. This determines the type of transport provided — minibus, taxi, or mileage allowance.

## Step 5: Prepare for the First Day

If approved, you’ll receive details about pickup and drop-off times, the driver, and the passenger assistant. Make sure your child is ready a few minutes before the scheduled time.
